The Upper Ground Floor flat was very generous in size but the Client found the layout and feel not to their contemporary family living and also lacking in an overall connection.
The Client wanted the original entrance to be reinstated so the connection from hall to corridor would flow better and the layout was zoned as private and public.
The living area was to be connected to the kitchen and entrance hall with simple historical detailing and contemporary elements all to feel clean and crisp so the Client could add objects and eclectic furniture they had been collecting as well as celebrate their ever changing art work. A fireplace was reinstalled with the fireplace being the main focus for the family with units flanking either side for display and for hifi systems etc. creating a warm family focus.
Belsize Park Gardens,London
The dining area adjacent to the kitchen had views of the garden celebrating the natural daylight. The original layout had you walking through the oversized kitchen to enter the living space. Now the kitchen is entered off the dining/living space and a new private corridor was created with two bedrooms and a larger family bathroom leading off the space with of course plenty of storage. The bedrooms and bathrooms were designed to be changeable as the children grew older with the bathroom being simple clean contemporary lines.
The Client were young and busy professionals and the bedroom needed to be designed to be not only functional but also to feel calm and a lovely place to retreat to when had a moment.
The large window was to be the focus for views and the bathroom and amenities were to create a Zen spa environment with added and easy storage. The Client also wanted the fireplace to be reinstated in the bedroom for future possible sale.
