An existing 1930’s house with limited internalised Ground Floor that the Client wanted to adapt to allow for renovation of the traditional living room to the front of house and bedrooms/bathrooms on the First Floor.
We then created off the front hall a large family area that incorporated an open plan kitchen area with island and dining area that ran into a family “snug” living area with a study off to the side and utility space. Part of the existing external corridor and garage were adapted to create this space.
The focal point was all to be looking out towards the garden and able to all be opened up to allow for internal and external areas to be merged.
Garden area to allow for hard paving and terraced garden for views and for the children to use as well as the garden area behind. Also a ‘grownup’ outside dining area by the study was created.
Bellmount Avenue, Hertfordshire
Emphasis was on daylight; the Client wanted the extension to have a pitched roof so we integrated sloping pitched rooflights and lighting. The Client wanted the areas to have the potential for change of use i.e. relocation of snug or dining room. The rear façade was pulled together by the full running windows and doors except for the structural piers.
